People are often told to stay healthy and take care of themselves. This usually refers to forming healthy eating habits and having a consistent exercise regimen to take care of one’s body and physical health. What is often not mentioned when talking about self-care is the importance of skincare. Your face is the part of you that people see every single day that cannot be hidden behind clothing, it’s the part of you that gets the most judgment and attention.

It is not a secret that when your skin feels good and healthy, you feel good and healthy. Skincare has always been around, but in the last decade or so it has been seriously highlighted as a form of self-care.

Today, top beauty companies are so popular that they are many young people’s dream companies to work for. The world of beauty and skincare also contribute to creating some of the best self-employed businesses where there seems to be a beautician clinic on almost every block promoting skin rejuvenating treatments, numerous spa treatments for healthy skin, and even eastern medicine practices such as acupuncture that claims skin-healing outcomes.

But perhaps the most common form of skincare that can be found in any mall or drugstore around the world; daily routine skincare products. There are a lot of different brands and products out there that claim the outcome of healthier skin, however, we’ve found that at the moment the best products are coming from Korean skin care brands like The Face Shop that are using natural, target ingredients to give user the best skin possible.

First and foremost you want to know what kind of skincare products to get when building your kit for a daily routine. A simple rule of thumb is that you want to cleanse, treat, and protect (via sunscreen).

    Cleansing

When it comes to skin cleansing products you want to have a gentle face wash that cleans and freshens up your face. Many face washes out there include harsh chemicals that end up creating a pH imbalance in your skin. If you are uncertain, the easiest way to avoid a harsh face wash is to buy one that is soap-free. Make sure to wash your face two times a day, once in the morning and before bed.

This keeps your face clean from the germs, dirt, and environmental pollutants you come in contact with on a daily basis and allows you to avoid clogged pores and serious breakouts.

    Treatment

Next up, skin treatment products. These usually include toners, serums, correctors, and moisturizers.

    Toner

Toners and serums are highly effective because they contain certain ingredients and vitamins that help keep your skin physically and chemically healthy. Toners are highly effective because they dry up oily skin and should be used after cleansing as it removes dirt more effectively than cleansing products.

    Serum

While toners are in charge of deep cleansing your face, serums are your skin’s biggest ally. Serums contain a high concentration of ingredients that take care of the physical condition of your skin. They are used to combat dark spots, discoloration, wrinkles, sagging, inflammation, and oil levels.

You do not necessarily need to have correctors in your daily routine kit, however, the most common skin corrector product is against acne. If you do not have the budget for that, a toner and a good serum will help just as much with acne.

    Moisturizer

No skincare routine is complete without a great moisturizer. Moisturizers hydrate and soften your skin. They prevent water loss through the outer layers of the skin and complements the natural protective oils within your skin. With constant washing and sun exposure, our skin can have a hard time staying hydrated and a good moisturizer can really help in that department.

The best moisturizers are thin and light to the touch as well as on your skin. A lot of heavy moisturizers can actually have negative effects as they can clog the pores on the face and prevent your skin from being able to breathe.

    Sunscreen

Finally, perhaps the most important step in your daily skincare routine; sunscreen. Our skin is incredibly sensitive to the sun and it is the number one reason why, if not protected, our skin can age prematurely and develop serious conditions such as skin cancer. Using an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen is paramount in your morning skincare routine even if you are not going outside during the day. UV rays are incredibly powerful and damaging to the skin, staying inside doesn’t protect you as it penetrates windows.

Doctors say that if you are not using sunscreen, you might as well not bother doing all the previous steps in your morning routine. This is why even if you cannot afford or don’t want to bother with the previous steps, invest in sunscreen, it is the most important product when it comes to skin health.
